Stars @ Sparks, 8/22 Game Recap

San Antonio fell to the Los Angeles Sparks 75-55 in Tuesday night’s road contest at the STAPLES Center.

Alex Montgomery led the Stars in scoring for the first time this season with 12 points, and also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Kayla Alexander made 4-of-5 shots from the field and all three of her free throws for 11 points to go along with four rebounds.

Kelsey Plum scored nine points while Isabelle Harrison and Dearica Hamby each scored six.

Nneka Ogwumike led Los Angeles with a game-high 22 points and 14 rebounds, and three other Sparks scored in double figures. Candace Parker, who recorded a triple-double the last time the two teams met, recorded 12 points, five rebounds and six assists.

After the Stars fell behind and took a 20-point deficit into halftime, they fought back in the third as they held the Sparks to 10 points, tying the fewest points they have allowed in a quarter this season. Los Angeles recovered in the fourth, however, to effectively put the game out of reach.

The Stars also allowed Los Angeles to score only eight points off turnovers, matching the fewest such total of the season.

San Antonio returns home to the AT&T Center on Friday, August 25, to face the Minnesota Lynx. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
