As the Stars head into their 15th season in San Antonio, we’ll be taking a look back at the top 15 moments in Stars history. Our #5 moment is from 2016 when the Stars retired former player and current Spurs Coach Becky Hammon’s jersey to the rafters.


More than an hour after Becky Hammon’s No. 25 jersey was raised to the AT&T Center rafters, she was still on the arena floor where she spent eight seasons as the leader of the San Antonio Stars.

There were still family members, coaches, teammates, fans, ushers and security guards for her to thank.

In typical Hammon fashion, she told the crowd of 9,439 that the first Stars jersey retirement in franchise history wasn’t about her, but the thousands who helped her get there. The thousands who were there for her journey from an undrafted player to one of the WNBA’s greatest.

“It’s the Hammon name that’s going up there, but there are so many that can be going up there with mine,” she said.
